He attained satori at the age of thirty.
He became Master at the age of forty
He was distinguished for his propriety.
Once it happened that a girl who spent
Time with him, found she was pregnant.
Questioned by parents who the man is
Amazingly she named the saint , errant.
Enraged parents reproached the monk
Called him names, said he was a bunk.
The monk bore the allegations calmly
He neither okayed, nor did he debunk.
When pressed hard,he said: is that so?
Mad, they abused. He said : is that so?
For parents it meant:do you think I'm so?
While he was asking his guide: is that so?
After a time, girl mother delivered a child
Parents went to the monk, gave the child.
It's your child, look after him, they advised
The priest said nothing and took the child.
So now the monk had to find food for two
It was a hard time,he was passing through.
Mostly it was barbs he got,in place of alms
He had no option,except to intently persue.
It is often very trying to bring up a suckling
He was not made for this, nor had training.
Sometimes the child would holler all night
He would be at his wit's end. It was taxing.
The girl mother could stand it no further
So she disclosed the identity of her lover.
He was fish market help,she told parents
Parents rushed to the saint helter skelter.
They caught hold of his feet and repented
They begged his forgiveness and lamented
They requested him to hand over the child
The saint was silent, their wish he granted.
Throng gone, saint looked out the window
And once again, he muttered: IS THAT SO?
He asked his inner guide:what is this joke?
